Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture

Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture has its roots in ancient China. Records indicate that acupuncture treatment for aesthetic concerns was used by the Empress and her courtiers for rejuvenation and longevity, as well as for health. In the 21st century, Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture (FRA) is emerging as an increasingly popular technique.

As a trained and experienced practitioner of Traditional Acupuncture, I am particularly concerned to use FRA within a traditional framework. All FRA treatments will be given after a traditional acupuncture diagnosis. This will take into account the individual’s state of health , and inform the constitutional basis of FRA treatment. I therefore aim for each person to complete a course of treatment both looking and feeling better.

The benefits include:

  • Help to promote overall health and wellbeing, whilst bringing out a person's innate beauty and radiance
  • Help to improve facial colour and brighten the eyes
  • Improve muscle tone
  • Increased collagen production and dispersal
  • Skin moisturisation through improved facial circulation
  • Improved dermal contraction
  • Help to eliminate excess fluid and reduce its effects

FRA achieves the best results through a course of regular treatment. Twelve sessions are recommended. Marked signs of change usually start to stabilise after 7 to 8 sessions. Each treatment lasts up to an hour and a half and should be administered between 4 to 7 days apart.

Once a course is completed, follow up sessions are recommended. The frequency varies according to the individual’s own health and lifestyle, although 1 to 3 months is the normal range.

Contraindications

FRA is contraindicated in a number of conditions. These include migraine, diabetes, cancer, AIDS, coronary disease, epilepsy and some other serious medical conditions, including high blood pressure.

It is also best avoided during pregnancy, flu and colds, acute allergic reaction and acute herpes. For all of these, Traditional Acupuncture, which is more specifically health related, or other forms of treatment would be recommended.

Other contraindications are bleeding conditions (e.g. haemophilia) and especially vascular deficiencies in the facial area. Pituitary swelling or tumours carry a risk of aggravation, as do tinnitus and dizziness.

For those enquiring about FRA, I can advise whether their health is suited to it, or if a course of Traditional Acupuncture would be more beneficial.
